Lady Tams’ Villareal has to find new jersey number

With Far Eastern University retiring Rachel Daquis’ number 3 in an emotional ceremony, current Lady Tamaraw Jeanette Villareal needed to change her jersey number.

The sophomore middle blocker was admittedly sad about having to use a different number, but eventually realized the honor of having worn an FEU legends’ number even for just a short while.UAAP-Season-79-FEU-Lady-Tamaraws-Rachel-Daquis-Jersey-Retirement Lady Tams' Villareal has to find new jersey number FEU News UAAP Volleyball - philippine sports news

“Una masakit pero masaya ako yun nga. Okay naman po. Ewan ko po basta okay lang siya wala naman akong hard feelings sa number 3,” Villareal told reporters last night, adding that she opted for the number 18 as her replacement.

“Nung high school ako number 3 talaga yung ginagamit kong number kaya pinagpatuloy ko hanggang college pero yun na naputol.”

Daquis, a headliner in FEU’s last UAAP championship campaign in Season 70, now serves as an inspiration for the current generation of Lady Tamaraws, who are looking for a breakthrough in Season 79.

“Para sa amin isa siyang malaking inspirasyon,” the 5-foot-8 middle blocker said moments after hearing Daquis’ speech.

“Kaya ‘yung mga sinabi niya itatatak namin sa puso at isip namin.”
