Espejo, Tokyo arrest skid, flatten Nagano in V.League

FC Tokyo arrested its three-game funk, trouncing cellar-dweller VC Nagano in four sets, 26-24, 25-14, 22-25, 25-14, in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 Men’s Tournament, Saturday at the Sumida City Gymnasium.

Marck Espejo only played in the first set, going scoreless in five attempts.

The Tridents were able to extend the match after a 25-22 third set squeaker, but FC Tokyo whipped them in the ensuing set, 25-14, for the skid-snapping victory.

With Espejo not fielded in the last three sets, Jonas Kvalen carried the fight with 23 points on 19 attacks, two blocks, and two service aces.

Hideyuki Kuriyama added 10 points as FC Tokyo improved to 5-8, still at eighth and 3.5 games behind JT Thunders and JTEKT, tied for sixth.

The Tridents, who fell to 1-16, were led by one-man show Rivan Nurmulki with 29 points on a 29-of-74 spiking rate.

Both squads play each other anew tomorrow at 1:00 PM (Manila time) at the same Tokyo venue.
