EJ Obiena is all set to fight for Team Pilipinas once more.
On Good Friday, the world-ranked pole vaulter has been cleared by the Philippine Sports Commission and Commission on Audit regarding his liquidation of funds from June 13, 2019-August 11, 2020 which amounted to P12,324,114.
“Closure.
“Five months-long of events have finally come to a close,” expressed the defending Southeast Asian Games gold medalist.
Since December of last year, Obiena and the Philippine Athletics, Track and Field association have figured in a back-and-forth involving the 26-year-old’s liquidation of expenses.
It resulted to Obiena’s banishment from the PATAFA and president Philip Juico being declared a persona-non-grata by the Philippine Olympic Committee.
After a mediation process initiated by the PSC, the two parties were able to settle their differences.
Now, Obiena is back.
“We now have closure. I would like to be back and focus on training and competing for the country with my teammates in PATAFA and its officials,” said Obiena.
“We now eye with 100% focus the upcoming SEA Games. We will do our very best to represent the Philippines.”
