Echo Proud rampaged their way through the playoffs capped by a 3-1 victory over GameLab in the grand finals to seize the MLBB Development League Philippines Season 1 title on Sunday.
Bannered of former MPL Philippines players, Echo finished the regular season on top of Group B, dropping only three games, and swept Bren Euphoria Esports in the semi-finals to take their place in the title match.
Two-time MPL Philippines champion Jaypee “Jaypee” Dela Cruz delivered a phenomenal performance in the title match that earned him the grand finals MVP.
Echo took a decisive lead in Game 1 after James “Jeymz” Gloria’s (Arlott) Final Slash set-up play followed up by Jaypee’s (Lolita) two-man Noumenon Blast helped secure the 9th-minute lord and force a 3-0 takedown. The Orcas did not concede any death from there and cruised to a 14-minute opening win.
Jhonville “Outplayed” Villar (Karrie) then went on a rampage in Game 2 leading a one-sided affair with a 9-1-5 KDA to lead Echo’s 18-3 annihilation on the kill tally.
GameLab though was not to be outdone as they unveiled Vincent “Takanega” Monilla’s Fanny pick in Game 3 as they waylaid Echo with a 20-7 kill tally to extend the series.
Outplayed (Brody) once again delivered in crunch time of Game 4, scoring a triple kill during a 12th-minute base turret invasion to spearhead Echo’s title-clinching push.
