Solidifying their team captain’s legacy will be one of the main motivations for reigning MPL champion ECHO when the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang Southeast Asia Cup commences on June 10, 2023.
“Sobrang halaga po kasi yun na nga lang yung kulang niya para ma-cement yung GOAT status [ni Karl],” ECHO head coach Archie “Tictac” Reyes said when asked how important is winning the MSC for the team.
KarlTzy, who has won everything except the regional tilt, is on track to replicate former teammate CJ “Ribo” Ribo’s feat of completing all major ML:BB titles this June in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
The only two-time world champion led the Philippines to the gold medal in the first-ever ML:BB event at the 31st Southeast Asian Games in 2019.
KarlTzy then won his first MPL PH title back in Season 6 with Bren Esports before eventually leading the team to the M2 World Championships in Singapore two years ago.
The 18-year-old repeated all of these achievements with ECHO, carrying the team to the M4 World Championships earlier this year and eventually winning the MPL Philippines Season 11 title.
ECHO roamer Tristan “Yawi” Cabrera stated that the team will ride the momentum they gained in M4 and MPL PH Season 11 to lead KarlTzy to victory.
“Sobrang gusto po talaga namin maipanalo. Bukod sa syempre para kay Karl, para rin po sa team lalo na dire-diretso po yung napapanalo namin [na tournaments] ngayon tapos [nasa] momentum po kami so yun po,” said Yawi.
ECHO is expected to breeze through the pool stage after being grouped with EVO Esports of Laos and Incendio Supremacy of Turkiye.
The MSC will take place from June 10 to June 18.
