Taiwan basketball just signed its most high-profile import ever.
Dwight Howard announced on Tuesday that he is set to play for Taoyuan City in the ongoing 2022-23 T1 League season.
“I’m so, so excited to touch down in Taiwan to start playing for the Taoyuan City Leopards.
“This is my third time in Taiwan. I can’t wait to meet the fans and have the best time ever and bring the championship to Taoyuan City,” the 36-year-old big man said.
This will be Howard’s first overseas stint, playing the past 18 years in the NBA. He posted career numbers of 15.69 points, 11.78 rebounds, and 1.79 blocks per game.
Last season, he played for the Los Angeles Lakers.
He joins a Leopards team that is coming off a fifth-place finish in the six-team league, posting a slate of 8 wins and 22 losses.
And Howard vows to bring a championship to Taoyuan City.
“It’s time to go! I’ll see you in Taoyuan City. Teammates, I can’t wait to meet you guys. I’m coming with open arms, big hugs, and huge smiles.”
