Dondon Hontiveros did not hide his excitement over the upcoming ASEAN Basketball League season after Tanduay Alab Pilipinas acquired the services of his former teammate Danny Seigle as the team’s consultant.
“We added another all-time great as consultant, si Danny Seigle. So we’re looking forward sa season namin,” Hontiveros told Tiebreaker Times at the Meralco Gym, where he served as a spectator in SMART Gilas Pilipinas’ practice.
“It would be exciting for me.”
The two PBA greats enjoyed success together with the San Miguel Beermen in the early 2000s, as they — along with fellow legends Danny Ildefonso and Olsen Racela — helped the storied franchise win numerous titles during their time.
Aside from those championships, both Hontiveros and Seigle have stacked basketball resumés in their respective careers — careers that have spanned for nearly two decades that have been truly become the stuff of legends.
The Cebuano Hotshot strongly believes that the eight-time PBA champion’s addition to Alab, even in a front office role, is a huge boost, as his vast experience will definitely aid the development of its players, particularly its main man Ray Parks, Jr.
“Malaking bagay for the other guys, especially kay Ray Parks as a leader,” shared the 40-year-old. “Maraming mai-impart na knowledge and experience si Seigle sa kanya, so we’ll see a better Parks this year.
“Looking forward to that.”
But that does not stop there, said the 19-year veteran. Tanduay Alab’s acquisition of the 41-year-old Seigle, according to Hontiveros, is just another solid testament to their goal of becoming the best team in the region.
“Yung sinabi ni Charlie Dy (team owner) at the start, nung press con (last October 17), na if there’s another team na makakapag-compete against Hong Kong [Eastern Sports Club], it would be us.”
