Denice “The Menace Fairtex” Zamboanga held off her ONE Championship debut for two years because she felt she needed to work on a lot of things before making the jump.
But during her debut, “The Menace Fairtex” proved she was more than ready.
Zamboanga snagged an impressive unanimous decision win over Jihin “Shadow Cat” Radzuan at ONE: Mark of Greatness on December 6 at the Axiata Arena in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
“The game plan was to dominate her on the ground, which I believed I showed in the first two rounds. My mindset was to get that win. I don’t want to go home empty-handed and disappoint all of my supporters,” Zamboanga said.
“Jihin did not surprise me on that night. I really prepared for her triangle chokes as she was successful with that in her previous fights. I can say that I came really prepared.”
The 22-year-old is ecstatic over her smashing debut, especially after beating Jihin, whom many regard as one of the best young talents in the organization.
“I’m so happy and emotional at the same time. I’ve waited for this for a long time. I’ve worked hard for this. It’s an amazing feeling to get a win in your debut,” Zamboanga said.
“Beating a superstar and a top contender in my division in my debut definitely boosts my confidence. I don’t have plans to break my winning run. I’m riding a good momentum now and I hope to take this for my future fights in ONE.”
Criticized for the lack of big names on her resume, “The Menace Fairtex” can now proudly say she beat a legitimate World Champion, and she believes “Shadow Cat” will not be her last.
“They said most of my opponents were not that good, so this win is big for my confidence, especially for my future fights in ONE Championship.”
