Another Filipino mixed martial artist will have the opportunity to perform under the bright lights on Friday, August 11.
Tiebreaker Times has learned from a reliable source that Dave Bangguigui will return to action on the undercard of ONE Friday Fights 28 to battle Sanzhar Zakirov of Uzbekistan in a three-round strawweight bout.
ONE Friday Fights 28 will take place at the iconic Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 26-year-old standout from La Trinidad, Benguet, holds a remarkable record of 9-1 as a pro, with four victories by knockout and two via submission.
Bangguigui, an alumnus of Rich Franklin’s ONE Warrior Series, made his main-roster debut back in April. He put forth an all-around performance, cruising to a hard-fought unanimous decision victory against Brazilian veteran Marcus Paulo Amaral.
Despite coming off a nearly four-year layoff, Bangguigui dispelled the proverbial ring rust as he outwrestled the Brazilian jiu-jitsu black belt over the course of three rounds to walk out with his hand raised in triumph.
In his next outing, the highly-touted Fight Corps MMA member will once again face a litmus test as he takes on an undefeated opponent in Zakirov, who owns an immaculate 5-0 slate.
Zakirov, 20, hasn’t gone the distance in his last four assignments, scoring two knockouts and two submissions—a streak that began in March 2022.
The Uzbek’s upcoming joust against Bangguigui will be his maiden foray onto the global stage of the sport after spending two years in the regional circuit.
Meanwhile, Bangguigui will look to join Team Lakay’s Carlos Alvarez as the second homegrown talent to accomplish two consecutive wins in the weekly ONE Friday Fights series.
