Davao Occidental pounds Caloocan for second win; Cebu holds Marikina down to MPBL record low

MPBL Datu Cup runners-up Davao Occidental Tigers showcased their depth on Friday evening, pouncing on the struggling Caloocan Supremos, 76-69, Friday evening at the Marist School Gymnasium in Parañaque.

Former San Beda Red Lion and new Tigers recruit Yvan Ludovice showed his fangs in the game, scoring 10 of his 13 points in the second half to fend off the 0-2 Supremos. He also tallied five assists, four rebounds, and two steals.

After a slow start, Davao Occidental used a huge third quarter surge to blow the game wide open.

Billy Ray Robles and Bonbon Custodio were both instrumental in the run, with 10 markers each. Robles also grabbed seven rebounds, while Mark Yee gobbled up 10 boards.

The La Salle duo of Almond Vosotros and Thomas Torres paced Caloocan with 21 and 10 points, respectively.

In the main game, home team Marikina Shoemasters were embarrassed by the Cebu Sharks-Casino Ethyl Alcohol, 41-50.

Marikina’s 41-point outing is the all-time low for points scored in a game in the league. Their 23-percent shooting from the field was also the record for futility.

Patrick Cabahug led Cebu with 14 points.
