Converge taps Delta Pineda as ‘player development’ consultant

Converge is pulling out all the stops in its Philippine Basketball Association debut.

The team has tapped Pampanga governor Delta Pineda as its “player development” consultant.

Pampanga News Now was the first to report on the development.

“Masaya tayo sa pagsali ng Converge sa PBA kasi ang owner nito ay Kapampangan,” Pineda told Pampanga News Now as team owner Dennis Anthony Uy is from Pampanga.

“Our Kapampangan basketball players have more chances to play in the higher league.”

Pineda is credited with turning Pampanga into a basketball hotbed.

Under his program, the likes of Arwind Santos, Calvin Abueva, Ian Sangalang, and Justine Baltazar were discovered by some of the country’s top collegiate programs.

Pineda is also the head coach of two-time National Basketball League-Pilipinas champions Pampanga Delta.

Also serving as a consultant of Converge is restaurant and mining industrialist Frank Lao.

Lao has been a consultant for La Salle Green Hills, San Beda-Taytay, and College of Saint Benilde.

Last week, Converge hired former league commissioner Chito Salud as its team governor.

All PBA games stream live on GigaPlay. Download it now on Android or IOS.

The second game of each playdate is also livestreamed on SMART Sports.
