During this ongoing season, Chris Tiu has been playing top-notch basketball.
With his stellar play, he has helped steer the Rain or Shine Elasto Painters to the top seed of the 2018 Commissioner’s Cup. In addition, he is averaging 12.4 points, 5.8 assists, and 3.6 rebounds per game – some of his best numbers in his six-year stay in the big league.
But this might be the last season Tiu plays in the PBA.
According to Meralco Bolts head coach and Tiu’s former mentor in Ateneo Norman Black, he has heard that 32-year-old cager/TV host/entrepreneur is ready to hang up his boots after this season.
“Well, he seems to be playing really relaxed now. I’ve heard that he might retire at the end of the year, maybe that’s the reason why,” Black disclosed after Rain or Shine’s 106-99 win over Meralco, Sunday evening.
Black added that this is the reason why the 5-foot-11 combo guard has been going all-out.
“I have no idea but he seems to be relaxed the way he played and he’s always been a good player,” Black added. “I think they probably moved some of the players that were playing his position in the past couple of years.
“He’s gotten an opportunity to have more minutes this conference so he has really performed well.”
If true, it will only be right for Rain or Shine to give Tiu a championship as a send-off.
