Though Calvin Abueva and the Phoenix Fuel Masters were booted out of the PBA Governors’ Cup last Friday evening, he was able to see who really cares for him.
During the game, Vice Ganda and his good friends Karylle and Ryan Bang sat at courtside cheering their hearts out for Abueva and the Fuel Masters. And as Abueva heated up in extra time, Vice could not contain himself, jumping up and down with every point and every rebound.
However, it ended in a tough 103-108 overtime loss.
After the game, Abueva went to Vice and gave him his jersey, as a token for being a friend as he recovers from a trying time in his life.
“Actually, we are good friends talaga, wala kaming status sa relationship,” Abueva told Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas Live last October 31. “Ang amin lang is mag-succeed kami sa friendship namin. Siyempre, minsan lang talaga makasama ng player yan na papakisamahan siya.
“Kahit na ganiyan siya (celebrity), wala ako (paki) dun. Kaibigan ko siya at kaibigan niya ko.”
The 30-year-old native of Angeles City, Pampanga disclosed that they are just friends. Nothing more, nothing less.
For the six-year veteran, he is relishing their friendship, as he still cannot believe that someone as popular as Vice would tag him along for a ride.
“For example may event na something na sabay o nasa labas, pag hindi siya busy, tetext ko siya kumbaga para i-meet niya yung mga kailangan niyang i-meet. Number one talaga, he’s a good friend,” added Abueva.
“Walang ibang ginagawa yan kung hindi makisama.”
After the game, Vice made sure to bring Abueva along in one of his stand-up comedy shows to try and cheer him up. A true friend, indeed.
