The Taguig Lady Generals and the PSI Lady Air Defenders moved one victory away from arranging a finals series in the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL).
The Lady Generals defeated the Cleon and Clyde Lady Snipers, 72-67, and the Lady Air Defenders beat the Philippine Navy-Go For Gold Lady Sailors, 68-49, recently in Game One and get the upper hand in their best-of-three semifinal series
The Lady Generals and the Lady Air Defenders go for the sweep of the series in Game Two on Saturday at the Bren Guiao Convention Center in San Fernando, Pampanga.
National team mainstay Janine Pontejos had 25 points including four threes for the Lady Generals in outlasting the Lady Snipers in the match. Chack Cabinbin had 16 points and seven assists including a steal that led to a fastbreak lay-up to put the game away for Taguig.
The Lady Generals spoiled the triple-double effort of Afril Bernardino, who had 18 points, 15 rebounds, and 10 assists in the game.
Amby Almazan had 15 points and 13 rebounds, as Anna Buendia had 14 points and nine rebounds for the fourth-seed Lady Air Defenders in picking up the win over the top-seed Lady Sailors in the series opener.
The Lady Sailors struggled on offense with Ria Nabalan being the top scorer for the team with only nine points.
