After losing their first two matches of the season, the Ateneo de Manila University Lady Eagles have surged, locking down three straight matches, including their latest five-set win over the Adamson University Lady Falcons, Wednesday afternoon.
Likening Season 80 to a normal semester at Ateneo, the Lady Eagles feel that they are just scraping by and are on pace for a barely passing grade.
“Mga C-plus.
“Nawawala sa focus especially pag nagkakamali yung team namin, nawawala sa focus, di na masyado nakakapuntos, at saka receive talaga,” assessed team capatain Maddie Madayag when asked to grade their performance through five matches.
“‘Yun naman talag yung problema namin ever since pero we’re working on it. And obviously it’s evident naman na nag-iimprove rin,” added Madayag, who tallied 14 points off seven attacks, three blocks, and four aces.
“Mga seventy to eighty,” chimed in Jho Maraguinot, who finished with a team-high 15 markers.
“Siguro nara-rattle kami ‘pag lumalamang sa amin yung kalaban.”
The Lady Eagles will face the University of the Philippines Lady Maroons on Sunday, before taking on perennial rivals De La Salle University Lady Spikers on March 3 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Riding on their best streak this season, Madayag is confident that her team will continue improving, given their constant push in training.
“For us, we treat the teams equally naman. Wala namang mas magaling ito, mas magaling ‘yan,” the 20-year-old blocker shared.
“Babalik kami sa training, gagawin namin yung usual na ginagawa namin, magsca-scout kami, magpra-practice kami.”
