Bryan Sajonia suffers apparent knee injury at Ynares Center

ANTIPOLO — Another player went down hurt at the Ynares Center here after Bryan Sajonia suffered an apparent knee injury during Titan Ultra’s second-round meeting with San Miguel in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup, Wednesday.

The San Beda rookie went down after his left knee twisted while attacking Marcio Lassiter in a fastbreak situation at the 8:51 mark of the third quarter.

He had to be carried out on a stretcher and will be transported to a hospital for further tests. Sajonia finished with four points.

There is no prognosis yet, although One Sports’ Apple David reported that the 26-year-old combo guard did not hear a pop in his injured knee.

Sajonia was hurt eerily in the same spot where DeQuan Jones sustained a complete fracture to his lower right leg during the third quarter of NLEX’s eventual 118-111 overtime win over TNT Tropang 5G just last night.

The American forward’s injury evoked memories of Kevin Alas’ two ACL injuries, both of which he suffered at the same venue and in the same spot.

Fans have grown concerned about the venue, with some pointing to injuries that have occurred there in past seasons, particularly in 2022. That time, a number of players got hurt, including Isaac Go, who tore his ACL during his time with Terrafirma.

Purefoods big man Eugene Tejada suffered a career-ending neck injury back in 2006 — just his third year in the league — here at the Ynares Center.
