Bombita suffers ACL tear after warmup mishap on opening day

Graze Bombita will miss the remainder of the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Open Conference after suffering an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) tear on her left knee, Cignal said in a statement on Monday.

“Graze Bombita has suffered an ACL tear on her left knee and will be out for the remainder of the 2022 PVL Open Conference,” announced the HD Spikers on their social media accounts.

“Awesome Nation is praying for her speedy recovery and we can’t wait to see her back in action soon.”

Bombita suffered the injury during the team’s warm-up in its opening day match-up against Chery Tiggo last March 16. The 30-year-old outside hitter was set to make her Cignal debut then but had to be stretchered off the court due to the injury.

She was acquired by the HD Spikers for the 2022 PVL season following a stellar outing with BaliPure in the 2021 Open Conference in Bacarra, Ilocos Norte. There, Bombita led BaliPure to victories against Perlas, Cignal, and erstwhile champions Chery Tiggo.

The HD Spikers were coming off a quick 25-14, 25-9, 25-14 victory against the Water Defenders on Monday prior to the announcement.

Currently, Cignal is already waiting in the semifinals where they will face the winner of the Petro Gazz-F2 Logistics quarterfinals match-up.
