Blackwater has parted ways with KG Cañaleta.
Multiple sources told Tiebreaker Times that the veteran forward was no longer given an extension following his contract’s expiration last December 31.
He played for only a couple of games in the ongoing 2021-22 PBA Governors’ Cup. He saw action for a total of 15 minutes and 56 seconds.
Cañaleta, 39, spent two of the last four seasons as a Bossing. First was in 2017, when he got traded by GlobalPort in a three-player deal.
He returned to the franchise in 2019. He and Mike Tolomia were shipped by Meralco in exchange for Allein Maliksi, Raymar Jose, and two draft picks.
The one-time PBA champion had his best stretch with Blackwater in the 2020 Philippine Cup, where he averaged 11.7 points and 4.3 rebounds.
It remains to be seen what Cañaleta’s next move is.
Also let go by the ball club was Frank Golla, sources said. The bruising big last played in the 2021 Philippine Cup and normed 5.4 points and 3,3 boards.
The development came after the Bossing signed Baser Amer and Barkley Eboña to one-year and two-year extensions, respectively.
Blackwater remains on the hunt for that elusive win to finally put an end to its historic 24-game losing skid that dates back to 2020
