Mum was the word from Far Eastern University head coach Olsen Racela after his team were embarrassed by the University of the East Red Warriors, courtesy of a 25-point rout.
If Racela felt this way, how much more for the Tamaraws?
FEU lifer Ino Comboy confessed that he’d had a hard time sleeping that night. It was the same for his teammates, as they were eager to get back to the gym and bounce back from that loss.
“Una, sobrang nakakahiya.
“So parang hindi kami makatulog. Paggising mo, parang gusto mo na agad game day na, gusto mo na agad bumawi na. So ayun, naging… sa tingin ko naman, excited kaming lahat na mga players, excited kami bumawi,” said the fourth-year guard.
Wanting to atone for what happened, Comboy took charge for the Tamaraws on Wednesday afternoon. The 6-foot guard scored 10 of his 18 points in the final frame alone to lift FEU back to the win column, 73-68, against the National University Bulldogs.
After the game, the senior guard expressed his deepest apology to the FEU faithful, saying that they won’t let complacency get in the way again the rest of the way.
“May message lang sana ako, in behalf of our team, sa FEU community, hindi kami yung naglaro noong UE.
“Wala kami sa… alam mo ‘yun, wala sa hulog, so humihingi kami ng pasensya. So yun, ibibigay namin ang best namin, di kami gi-give up every play, yun ang maasahan niyo sa amin,” he vowed.
