Beatdown at hands of Letran, a ‘rude awakening’ for San Beda

Coming off a dominant win against Lyceum-Cavite, San Beda-Taytay was sent crashing back down to earth by none other than their archrival, suffering a crushing 68-94 defeat against Colegio de San Juan de Letran on Friday.

Despite starting off strong in the second period and leading by 16 points, the Red Cubs struggled to maintain their lead as Letran mounted a comeback.

The Squires dominated the game capped by an impressive alley-oop courtesy of Jonathan Malili to Andy Gemao in the fourth quarter.

Red Cubs head coach Miko Roldan admitted that this was a wake-up call for the team and that they still have a lot of work to do to reach their goals.

“It’s a rude awakening for everyone, for us. We have to work hard pa, malayo pa kami dun sa gusto namin,” bared the former FEU Tamaraw.

“Obviously, tinambakan kami ng Letran – number one team ngayon. We still think that they’re the team to beat pero feeling namin magkikita pa kami niyan.”

Though it’s still early in the single-round tournament, Roldan hopes this defeat brings them together.

Roldan believes that the team needs to stay together and work on their camaraderie in order to succeed this season. He believes that the key to their success is for the team to come together and support each other.

The Red Cubs will have an opportunity to regroup and strategize their next move against the San Sebastian Staglets on Monday.

Roldan is confident they can bounce back from this setback and become stronger in their next game. The Red Cubs will have to work hard and stay united in order to overcome this loss and reach their goals for the season.

“We just have to stay together. Di kami pwede mag watak watak sa ganitong talo lalo. Dito natin makikita kung gaano yung camaraderie ng mga bata,” he said.

“Kailangan lalo kaming magsama-sama. That’s it.”
