Bagunas, Oita Miyoshi stun JTEKT, snap seven-game skid in V.League

Bryan Bagunas and Oita Miyoshi have finally broken out of their seven-game funk in stunning fashion.

Weisse Adler upset JTEKT in a five-set thriller, 25-23, 11-25, 12-25, 25-22, 15-13, in the 2021-22 Japan V.League Division 1 men’s tournament at the CNA Arena Akita on Saturday.

The Philippine national team stalwart dropped 23 points scattered through 19 spikes, three block kills, and a service ace. He also went 4-of-6 from the backrow.

After giving up the first set, the Stings came back with vengeance in mind.

They decimated Oita Miyoshi in the second frame, 25-11, before adding another blowout, 25-12, in the third.

However, Weisse Adler regained the touch they had back in the opening set, bouncing back in the fourth, 25-22 to force a decider.

And in the fifth, Bagunas and his squad willed their way to a victory, finishing off JTEKT 15-13.

Emerson Rodriguez added 23 points as well for Weisse Adler while Kota Yamada had 11.

Also helping Oita’s cause were the Stings’ 39 errors, while it only committed 20.

The win put Oita Miyoshi at 2-7, still at ninth but just a win behind FC Tokyo and Hiroshima, while the Stings slipped to 5-4.

Kento Miyaura led the way for JTEKT with 23 points including four service aces. Felipe Fonteles chimed in 21 points on 17 attacks, three blocks, and an ace.

The two squads collide anew tomorrow, 11 am, at the same venue.
