Bagunas explodes for 29 as Oita snaps nine-game skid in V.League

Filipino superstar Bryan Bagunas and Oita Miyoshi have put an end to their nine-game losing skid, Saturday.

Weisse Adler got one back over VC Nagano, avenging yesterday’s defeat with a 23-25, 25-20, 25-21, 25-16 win in the 2020-21 Japan V.League Division 1 men’s tournament, held at the Cycle Shop Kodama Osu Arena in Oita.

Oita leader Bagunas turned his game up a notch than on Friday. He followed up his 26-point performance with a 29-point outing today, scattered through 25 spikes, two blocks, and two aces.

Bagunas, the league’s eighth-most efficient hitter, didn’t waste many of his attempts. He went 25-of-35 in the attacking department, good for 71.4 percent.

Meanwhile, Kota Yamada and Curtis Stockton chipped in 19 markers apiece, with the former grabbing five service aces.

The victory then pushed Weisse Adler’s win-loss record to 3-29, just behind the Tridents at 4-28.

Rivan Nurmulki led the Tridents anew with 21 points built on 17 hits, three block kills, and an ace, while Takahiro Tozaki had 15.

The two squads will most likely compete in the V Challenge match after the regular round. There, they will be grouped with Division 2’s top two teams with a chance to replace Division 1’s bottom two.

Oita Miyoshi will next face the league-leading Suntory Sunbirds on Saturday, March 20, 11 am, at the Ookini Arena Maishima in Osaka.
