B.League: Thirdy, San-En bow to Chiba in NY showdown


Thirdy Ravena and San-En could not solve the problem that is Chiba on New Year’s day, bowing to 69-85 in the 2022-23 B.League Season at Funabashi Arena.

Coming off a 100-70 loss to the same team last Saturday, the NeoPhoenix struggled anew against the league-leading Jets.

Yuki Togashi set the tone for Chiba, ending up with 28 points, nine assists, and three steals and lifting the Jets to a 22-4 slate.

Christopher Smith added 17 points while John Mooney grabbed 12 boards to go along with his nine points. Shuta Hara got 12 points as well.

San-En, who fell to 12-14, was led by Ravena and Kyle O’ Quinn, who got 14 points apiece. The latter also grabbed nine rebounds.

Isaiah Hicks and Ryusei Sasaki added 13 points apiece.

Over at White Ring, Matthew Aquino and Shinshu completed a sweep of Utsunomiya with a 70-62 victory.

Aquino tallied six points and two rebounds as the Brave Warriors went up to 13-13 in the Central District.

Josh Hawkinson and William Mosley both tallied double-doubles with the former notching 16 points and 13 boards while the latter produced 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Yuta Okada fired 15 points as well.

The Brex, who fell to 11-15, was led by Josh Scott, who got 16 points and 16 rebounds.
