B.League: Juan GDL plays just one minute as Tokyo Z dealt 30-point rout by Yamagata

Juan Gomez de Liaño once again spent the majority of a game on the bench, Saturday evening.

The Filipino import out of University of the Philippines played just one minute in Earthfriends’ 51-81 loss at the hands of early leader Yamagata, held at the latter’s home court in Yamagata Prefectural Sports Park.

Gomez de Liaño only played in the tail-end of the opening quarter, going scoreless in that span while attempting one shot.

It was another crushing loss for Tokyo Z, who was coming off a couple of losses against Kagawa last weekend. Earthfriends dropped to 0-3 in the 2021-22 B.League Division II season.

A seven-point second quarter compounded Tokyo Z’s loss, while Yamagata continued to step on the pedal. In the final frame, the Wyverns simply overwhelmed Earthfriends, scoring 29 points while limiting their guests to just 12 points.

All in all, Yamagata shot 47-percent from the field, while Tokyo Z went a horrid 34-percent. They also outrebounded Earthfriends, 41-32.

Kenny Lawson led the way for the 3-0 Yamagata with 25 points on 11-of-13 shooting from the field with 11 rebounds.

Jawad Williams added 19 points as all but one Wyvern scored in the contest.

Pat Andree had 14 points for Tokyo Z. Combo guard Tsubasa Kurihara added 11 points but had five turnovers.

The two teams square off again tomorrow at 3:00 PM.
