Chian quashed the young Koreans with a dominant three-setter to open its title defense in the 2022 PNVF AVC Cup for Women, taking a quick 25-9, 25-8, 25-9 victory, Sunday afternoon at the Philsports Arena in Pasig City.
Outside hitter Zhuang Yushan paced the defending champions with 13 points on 11 attacks and two service aces, while opposite hitter Zhou Yetong anchored the side’s net defense, scoring four of China’s ten blocks to go with seven spikes.
The game only lasted 63 minutes.
The Kuang Qi-mentored side jumped into early leads, capitalizing on the reception problems of Korea. The advantage eventually ballooned to double digits before settling into the set wins in the first and second.
Korea crawled back with three straight points in the third to go to 8-22, but China closed out the match with a 3-1 ending spurt.
China took advantage of the porous defense of the Korean squad, scoring 38 points on attacks and nine on service, and turned to their own defense at the net with 10 blocks.
Choi Hosun led Korea with seven markers, all coming from attacks, while Kim Seyul added three points on two spikes and the squad’s lone ace.
China will attempt to go for a back-to-back against Vietnam on Monday at 1 p.m., while South Korea will take on Iran later in the day at 7 p.m., still at the same Pasig venue.
