ONE World Champions Aung La “The Burmese Python” N Sang and Christian “The Warrior” Lee are out to give their unbeaten challengers a rude awakening.
The two superstars will take center stage at the massive ONE: Inside the Matrix event this Friday, October 30, at the Singapore Indoor Stadium.
Aung La N Sang defends his ONE Middleweight World Title against Reinier “The Dutch Knight” De Ridder. On the other hand, Lee puts his ONE Lightweight World Title on the line against #1-ranked contender Iuri Lapicus.
“He’s going to look for the takedown. He’s going to look for the submission. He’s going to want to grapple, but I have that skill set, as well as the striking. I know for a fact that I’m superior in the striking department. So for this match-up, I’m going to be looking to finish him on the feet,” Aung La N Sang told ONEFC.com.
“He’s a high-level grappler, and he’s got some slick submissions, but I don’t think he’s a high-level wrestler. So I think he’s going to have a hard time taking me down, and I don’t believe his ground game is much better than mine. If it does go to the ground, I’ll be fine.”
Aung La N Sang no doubt feels impressed with what his challenger brings to the cage, especially since the Dutch grappler is entering the bout with a 12-0 record. But “The Burmese Python” believes that since De Ridder has not been tested in the later rounds, it could be his downfall.
“As an undefeated fighter, he has never been pushed to his limits. He’s never taken shots like the ones that I’m going to be throwing at him, so we’ll see how he fares with that,” Aung La N Sang says.
Lee, meanwhile, also expects a tough outing against Lapicus, who has been a juggernaut in his initial two outings in the ONE Circle.
For the youthful World Champion, he anticipates nothing less than an exciting match.
“With Iuri Lapicus, I was really excited to hear that he was going to be my first fight back. He’s done well in his career to earn that #1-contender spot. I give all the credit to him, and I think he’s definitely a worthy opponent,” Lee said. “This is his first title shot and a big opportunity. When he steps into the Circle with me, he’s going to come out guns blazing, trying to take my head off. I do feel like that if it does go into the later rounds, I will have the edge over him.
“But just the way our styles match up, I feel like it’s going to be an early clash, and we’re going to see who’s got the better of each other.”
At the end of the day though, he’s confident he’ll have his hand raised. And he promises to finish his challenger in impressive fashion.
“We’re going to meet in the center of the cage, and my experience is going to come into play,” Lee said.
“I’m going to get a first-round TKO finish.”
