After a decade, Oliver Almadro will no longer be calling the shots for an Ateneo volleyball team.
The school announced that Brazilian Sergio Veloso will be the new head coach of the Blue Eagles’ women’s volleyball team on Monday evening.
Veloso is also the head coach of the Philippine Men’s National Volleyball Team. The FIVB assigned him, along with women’s team head coach Edson Souza De Brito, to the country through its empowerment program.
This ends Almadro’s decade-long stay in the school.
Back in 2014, he was named the head coach of the men’s volleyball team. Almadro steered the team to three UAAP crowns while helping develop the likes of Marck Espejo, Ish Polvorosa, and Rex Intal.
In 2019, he replaced Tai Bundit as the women’s team head coach.
Almadro would guide Ateneo to the UAAP Season 81 championship.
However, he would only lead Ateneo to a semis finish in Season 84 before missing out on the Final Four in Season 85 with a 4-10 record – the school’s worst finish in 14 years.
All in all, Amadro compiled a 29-21 record in his three-year stay as head coach of the women’s team.
