As ONE Heavyweight World Champion Arjan “Singh” Bhullar enters the final stretch of his training camp for his unification bout with undefeated interim titleholder Anatoly “Sladkiy” Malykhin, he found himself getting some major props from his childhood hero.
Bhullar caught up with professional wrestling legend and fellow Canadian Bret “The Hitman” Hart. They talked about their dads – Avtar Bhullar and Stu Hart – and Bhullar’s experience as an amateur wrestler in Stu Hart’s Tournament of Champions.
The talk will certainly be a boost of motivation for the Indian-Canadian superstar. After all, he’s only a few days away from the biggest match of his career. He takes on Malykhin at ONE Friday Fights 22 on June 23 inside Lumpinee Boxing Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.
During their conversation, Bhullar also spoke of his plans to transition into pro-wrestling, so who better to mentor him than the man known as “The Best There Is, The Best There Was, And The Best There Ever Will Be?”
“I’m going to be honest, I’m a big fan. In my [ONE Championship] contract I’m allowed to pro wrestle, and I want to pro wrestle. So this is actually quite personal for me. I want to get some insight from you on the best way to make that transition,” Bhullar said.
Hart graciously accepted Bhullar’s request to train him, telling “Singh” to get in touch when he makes the jump.
“I will certainly do my best to give you the best advice. I’d be happy to sit down with you and give you lots of pointers and things I can help you with as we go on and steer you in the right direction,” Hart said.
“When you’re going that down that road, you get in touch with me, and we’ll discuss the best route for you to get to where you want to go.”
The two talked about Bhullar’s upcoming match with Malykhin, and while Hart couldn’t really offer up any more advice, he reiterated his support for his compatriot.
“You know the plan. You know the deal. I don’t think any advice I can give you, you won’t have already heard. Just follow your heart, follow your instincts, follow your training and everything you’ve been taught, and you’ll be fine,” Hart said.
