Aquino, Shinshu end skid in B.League

Matthew Aquino and Shinshu ended their month on a high note, capping their horrendous December campaign with a 98-69 rout of Kyoto in the 2021-22 B.League season, Wednesday at Kotobuki Arena Chikuma.

Entering the month with a 9-5 slate, the Brave Warriors lost nine straight games as the team was plagued by injuries.

Fielding a complete lineup this time around, the Brave Warriors made sure to end things right.

A strong start propelled Shinshu to a 29-19 lead at the end of the opening frame and a 50-35 cushion at the half.

Hungry for a win, Shinshu did not let up in the second half, leading by as much as 29 points to close out the game.

Josh Hawkinson led Shinshu with 26 points and 12 rebounds while Tatsuya Nishiyama and Louis Kurihara got 17 points each, combining for eight treys in the contest.

Matthew Aquino played four minutes in the game, finishing with three points and two rebounds.

David Simon paced Kyoto with 24 points and nine rebounds while Justin Harper got 20 points and five rebounds.

Kyoto fell to 3-21.

Shinshu will next face Chiba on January 1 and 2 at Funabashi Arena.
