Angie Beard breaks goal drought, but Filipinas succumb to South Korea anew

ANGIE Beard’s goal was not enough as the Filipinas succumbed to South Korea anew 2-1 in an international friendly Monday at the Icheon Sports Complex.

Beard converted a free kick in the 74th minute to pull one back for the visitors, who were trailing by two goals for most of the match.

It was the first-ever goal for the 26-year-old defender in the Philippine jersey in 11 appearances for the country.

Similar to both sides’ first encounter last Friday that saw them bow 0-3, the Filipinas saw themselves on the backfoot.

Choe Yu-ri was again a thorn in Mark Torcaso’s side — providing an assist to help Choo Hyoojoo break the deadlock just a minute into the contest, and scoring herself in the 33rd minute.

This time, though, the Philippines managed to get on the scoresheet thanks to Beard’s free kick but the home side held on to make it back-to-back wins during this international window.

South Korea XI: Choi Yeseul (GK), Choo Hyoojoo, Lee Geummin, Ji Soyun, Choe Yu-ri, Jeoh Eunham Jang Selgi, Lee Youngnu, Go Yuna, Kim Hyeri, Kim Hyeri ©, Kang Chaerim.

Philippines XI: McDaniel (GK), Cowart, Long ©, Eggesvik, Frilles, McDaniel, Beard, Harrison, Chan, Quezada, Guillou.
