Almadro confident Deanna Wong can regain form in short conference

Choco Mucho head coach Oliver Almadro is hoping that Deanna Wong can finally recover from her injury as the Flying Titans hope to go deep in the 2022 Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference, Saturday.

Wong reinjured her right shin in the team’s bronze medal match against Cignal in the Open Conference. The same injury forced her out of the Philippine women’s national volleyball team lineup for the 31st Southeast Asian Games last May.

“Good thing it’s a three-set match but I’m really praying that Deanna will be a hundred percent throughout the tournament,” said Almadro after the victory.

“We really have to focus on her strengthening and we really have to focus as a team also so we need her inside the court,” he added.

Despite playing below a hundred percent, the star playmaker delivered 16 excellent sets and five points in Choco Mucho’s 25-21, 25-21, 25-23 opening day win against the undermanned Chery Tiggo at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

“She has a lot of minutes today because I really want her to test how far can she go today,” explained Almadro as Wong played all three sets in the quick win.

As the Flying Titans look to finally make it into the PVL podium, Almadro hopes that they can get Wong in shape early in the short conference.
