After defeating Song, Eustaquio open to showdown with McLaren

Former ONE Flyweight World Champion Geje “Gravity” Eustaquio put everyone on notice with a strong performance at ONE: Inside The Matrix III last Friday, November 13.

Eustaquio dominated “The Running Man” Song Min Jong in the co-main event at the Singapore Indoor Stadium, resulting in a convincing unanimous decision win for the charismatic Team Lakay star.

Having scored consecutive wins in convincing fashion, Eustaquio is already looking forward to his next conquest in his ascent back to the top of the loaded flyweight division.

“What I need to do is immediately train again, and improve and assess the errors that I made the last time. My job is to become a better athlete as time goes on,” Eustaquio said.

“Choosing an opponent is not my job. I trust ONE Championship with that. They have the best people in that job.”

Whoever ONE gives him next, Eustaquio just hopes it furthers his case for another shot at gold.

“Every athlete dreams of becoming a World Champion. I’ve been a World Champion, and I want to tell everyone that the desire and the fire to become one again has always been there,” he said.

However, Eustaquio need not look far for a possible challenger. Current fifth-ranked flyweight Reece “Lightning” McLaren would love to face Eustaquio.

Following an impressive KO win over Aleksi “The Giant” Toivonen, McLaren talked to Tiebreaker Times’ The Hit List about his desire to challenge the former divisional king.

“I always wanted to challenge myself against Geje. He’s the ex-World Champion. For me, that’s a fight that I always wanted,” McLaren said.

“I respect him so much as a person and as a fighter. I’d really like to test my skills against him.”

Although Eustaquio doesn’t want to pre-empt ONE’s matchmakers, he’s open to the idea.

“He belongs to the top-five, so let’s square it out. God permitting, why not? If ONE Championship allows it to happen, then I’m all for it,” he said.
