The Philippine Under-17 Women’s National Football Team advanced to the second round of the 2024 AFC U-17 Women’s Asian Cup qualification tournament by beating Lebanon 2-0 Wednesday night at the GFA National Training Center in Guam.
Isabella Alamo’s 68th-minute strike and Nina Mathelus’ 90th-minute penalty elevated coach Alen Stajcic’s squad to the top of Group G.
Mathelus finished as the team’s top scorer with four goals in two matches.
The Filipinas U-17 ended their campaign with 6 points behind back-to-back wins over host nation Guam and Lebanon.
Lebanon finished second in Group G with 3 points behind one win and one defeat while Guam finished last with 0 points on the back of two straight losses.
As the group winners, they will move on to the second round, which will comprise two groups of four.
The top two teams from both groups will then qualify for the tournament proper, which will be held in Indonesia on April 7-20, 2024.
