The Philippines ended its FIBA 3×3 Under-23 World Cup 2026 campaign without a win.
A day after Gilas Girls exited the tournament, Gilas Boys also failed to secure a victory, falling to Egypt, 21-16, and Latvia, 21-11, on Friday at Hongshan Riverfront Park in Wuhan, China.
Gilas Boys had also suffered defeats to New Zealand, 21-11, and Spain, 21-15, on Thursday.
Still, it was a gallant run for the Philippine team, which fielded an under-21 lineup against players as many as two years older than them.
Against Egypt, the quartet of Earl Medina, Cabs Cabonilas, Jedric Daa, and Malcolm Tyler struggled out of the gate, falling behind 12-6 early in the contest.
Cabonilas managed to cut Egypt’s lead to 17-13 with 1:35 remaining, but Yassien Mohamed Abdou Mohamed Kersha took over down the stretch, scoring Egypt’s final four points, including the game-winning basket with eight seconds left.
Medina led the Philippines with six points, all coming from two triples, while Tyler and Cabonilas added four apiece.
Latvia, meanwhile, proved too experienced for the young Gilas side, racing to a 15-4 lead and never looking back.
Cabonilas and Medina scored four points apiece in the loss.
Gilas Boys will now turn their attention to the 20th Asian Games, where Nic Cabanero, Luis Pablo, Doy Dungo, and Koji Buenaflor will look to bring the Philippines to the podium.
