F2 Logistics team captain Aby Maraño believes that newly-acquired Kalei Mau will have no problems with her transition from the now-disbanded United VC to the Cargo Movers.
Before arriving in the Philippines a year ago, Mau, a 24-year-old Fil-Hawaiian, boasted vast experience overseas. She had played for Indias de Mayagüez in Puerto Rico and Volley-Ball Nantes in France.
Given this, Maraño assures that Mau’s experience in international play will come in handy as the latter seeks to carve her niche in her new home.
“Ang advantage niya, nakapaglaro na siya ng international,” the National team skipper asserted.
“So meron na siyang mga exposure sa iba’t ibang klase na mga players. Marunong na siya makisama.”
Marano also knows that the former UVC captain is more than capable of keeping up with Ramil De Jesus’ training system.
“Mataas talaga yung intensity namin sa training.
“Na-adapt kasi namin yun since college. So natutuwa siya kasi ganun din yung ine-expect niya na training,” Maraño recalled.
Furthermore, Maraño admitted that when she caught wind of the 6-foot-2 spiker’s commitment to the Cargo Movers, the news swept her off her feet. But past from the pleasant surprise, Maraño cannot help her elation with the development.
“Ako, na-surprise lang ako na F2 yung pinili niya out of all the teams na tumatawag, nagta-try to get her,” she confided.
“Doon ako na-surprise, at natuwa ako kasi may isang katulad ni Kalei Mau na interesado palang maging teammates kami, gusto kaming makasama sa team.”
For Mau, one of the underlying reasons why she opted to join Maraño and her club team lies with the bond that they built during her trying times in the wake of UVC’s disbandment.
“Actually she’s not only a good teammate, she’s been a great friend for me,” Mau confessed. “She really helped me find accommodations, where to stay during the time being.
“She also helped me, not only to recruit me to her team, but also try to help me find a peace of mind while my mind was all over the place.”
With Maraño, who is known for her passion, and an equally intense Mau itching to share the court, expect F2 Logistics to bring plenty of tenacity this coming PSL All Filipino Conference.
“Hindi pa namin nailalabas yung roar, roar na sigaw, sigaw. Siguro sa game, mapapakita yan.”
