PBA Outstanding Rookie Aaron Black led the bubble All-Rookie Team in the PBA Press Corps Annual Awards Night Sunday at TV5 Media Center.
The second-generation cager was flanked by his peers whom he fought against for the top rookie honors for the season, which only featured one conference due to circumstances brought upon by the COVID-19 pandemic.
Black, the lowest pick to win the award, averaged 6.6 points, 3.7 rebounds, 1.7 assists, and 0.3 steals over the campaign. He helped Meralco to a historic run that saw them reach the semifinals for the first time in team history.
Joining Black are Arvin Tolentino of Philippine Cup champions Barangay Ginebra; rookie stats leader Roosevelt Adams of Terrafirma; hardworking big man Barkley Eboña from Alaska; and the promising Renzo Subido from Northport.
Tolentino was instrumental in the Gin Kings’ conquest of the all-Filipino tilt, as evident in Game One of their best-of-seven Finals series. He sank a clutch lay-up that eventually led to a 100-94 OT win over TNT.
Adams, the top pick in 2019, was one of the few bright spots in a one-win campaign of the Dyip with averages of 10.3 points and 8.1 rebounds.
Eboña, a 6-foot-6 slotman out of Far Eastern University, posted per-game norms of 7.0 points and 3.3 rebounds, including a 24-point outing in a loss to San Miguel that was the highest output of a rookie in the season.
Last but not least is Subido, who had himself a promising rookie year with norms of 6.1 markers and 2 2 assists. His career game so far was versus Ginebra, where he finished with 15 points and eight dimes.
