Returning from a long break, the Petro Gazz Angels started the Premier Volleyball League Open Conference second round on a high note, sweeping the Iriga-Navy Oragons, 25-21, 25-19, 25-17, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
Team captain Paneng Mercado led the Angels in the quick decision, tallying 20 points off 16 attacks, three aces, and a block. Kai Baloaloa added 15 markers.
After seeing the Oragons go on a two-game streak, Petro Gazz head coach Jerry Yee made subsequent adjusments.
“Well, siyempre, ina-anticipate natin may mga bago silang players so talagang tinutukan natin sina (Nene) Bautista. ‘Yun, nag prepare tayo for them,” said Yee.
“Buti nga nakuha na natin itong win na ito so the more wins na makuha natin the earliest, makakapuhunan tayo kasi ganoon din ‘yung schedule this time; dikit-dikit din. Within November tatapusin natin lahat ng games,” added the current CSB mentor.
Joanne Bunag led the Oragons with 18 points while Grazielle Bombita contributed 11.
The Angels (5-3) next face the Pocari Sweat Lady Warriors (4-5) on Wednesday at the same venue. The Oragons (3-8) take on the Ateneo-Motolite Lady Eagles (8-2) tomorrow.
