Cignal HD sweeps Smart Prepaid for second win

The Cignal HD Spikers completed a decisive sweep over the Smart Prepaid Giga Hitters, 25-10, 26-24, 25-18, in Group B of the 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga Invitational Cup at the Strike Gym in Bacoor City.

After a quick win in the first set, Cignal HD’s second stringers fended off a late Smart Prepaid rally in the second set to nail a foreboding 2-0 sets lead.

“My team really responded from our last game. The energy and teamwork I was looking for showed in today’s match,” said Cignal HD head coach Edgar Barroga.

Cignal clinched the win in the third set on the back of terrific play from captain Rachel Daquis and National Team pool member Mylene Paat. The pair sparked a late 5-0 rally that pushed their team to an insurmountable 18-13 lead.

Daquis tallied 13 points off seven attacks, four blocks, and two aces while Mylene Paat pitched in 12 markers.

The HD Spikers (2-0) take on Sta. Lucia (0-1) on July 3 at the Cadiz Arena in Negros Occidental.

Nene Bautista and Dimdim Pacres’ team-high, identical six-point outputs encapsulated Smart Prepaid’s scoring woes.

Smart Prepaid (1-1) aims to recover when they face Cocolife (1-0) on July 5 at the FilOil Flying V Centre.
