From 0-3, Generika-Ayala finishes first round with 4th straight win

The Generika-Ayala Lifesavers continued to ride their hot streak in the 2018 Chooks to Go-Philippine Superliga All-Filipino Conference, zooming past the Cocolife Asset Managers, 26-24, 20-25, 25-17, 25-19, at the FilOil Flying V Centre.

Generika started the conference on a three-game slide, before rescuing their record with their first-ever triumph over F2 Logistics. Now with four straight wins, Lifesavers assistant coach Parley Tupaz hopes his wards can sustain their level of play

“Mataas na ‘yung kumpiyansa ng mga players simula noong manalo kami sa F2. Sana lang magtuloy-tuloy ‘yung ganito naming laro,” said Tupaz, who sat in for head coach Sherwin Meneses. Meneses was in Indonesia, attending an FIVB coaching clinic.

Ilonggas Patty Orendain and Fiolla Ceballos topped Generika with 22 and 20 points, respectively. All of their points came off spikes.

After a dazed effort in the first two sets, the Lifesavers came to life in the last two frames.

“Sinabihan ko sa kanila na parang ayaw nila maglaro eh,” said Tupaz. “Mabuti na lang nagising ‘yung mga bata.”

With a 4-3 record, the Lifesavers move on to bracket B with the second seed, Cignal HD, and Cocolife.

Kalei Mau’s season-best 26 points went to naught, as Cocolife dropped their second straight match and sixth overall.
