Marwin Quirante steps up in competition at ONE Friday Fights 84

The weekly ONE Friday Fights series continues to live up to its reputation as “the launching pad of rising stars,” with yet another promising Filipino talent ready to shine under the spotlight.

This time, Marwin Quirante will seize his moment on the supporting card of ONE Friday Fights 84, set for October 25 at the iconic Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

There, he is booked to take on Vietnam’s Phan Thanh Tung in a strawweight MMA duel.

It’s worth mentioning that he joins a growing contingent of Pinoy athletes vying for a $100,000 contract with ONE Championship.

The Marawi native is one of the brightest prospects in the local scene today.

In fact, he comes from a family of fighters, being the cousin of former URCC flyweight champion and UFC veteran CJ De Tomas.

“The Green Goblin” holds a professional slate of 4-1, with two victories by knockout and one via submission.

2024 has been a breakout year for the young fighter so far, with two decisive wins under his belt.

He kicked off his campaign with a second-round submission win over Lions Nation MMA’s Aaron Posawen at Zeus Combat League’s debut event this past May.

Just three months later, Quirante followed up with an 18-second knockout of Awan Aqib under the BRAVE Combat Federation banner, delivering a front kick to the chin that ended the bout in dramatic fashion.

Now, with his 22nd birthday approaching on December 9, Quirante is aiming for an early celebration by finishing the year undefeated at 3-0.

However, standing in his way is Phan, an unbeaten mixed martial artist with a 4-0 standing, most of his victories coming by submission.

Like Quirante, Phan has been highly active in 2024, having competed three times in the Vietnamese circuit.

A victory for either man could significantly boost their chances of securing a six-figure deal and a spot on the ONE main roster.
