Zamboanga Master Sardines rode the hot hands of Bong Galanza to a commanding 94-66 victory over Paranaque on Monday, forcing a deciding Game 3 in their South Division quarterfinal series in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL) at the Mayor Vitaliano D. Agan Coliseum in Zamboanga City.
Galanza sparked a decisive 13-1 run, sinking three consecutive three-pointers that extended Zamboanga’s lead to 81-61 with just 6 minutes and 4 seconds remaining.
From that point onward, Zamboanga showed no signs of slowing down.
Renzo Subido and Chito Jaime contributed with timely shots, while Jayvee Marcelino added another three-pointer to solidify their dominance, pushing the score to 91-68 with under two minutes to play.
This victory allowed Zamboanga to avenge their 83-79 loss to Paranaque in Game 1 of the series. They will enjoy home-court advantage once again in the decisive Game 3 on Monday, October 21.
Galanza finished with 20 points, including five three-pointers, in just 12 minutes and 19 seconds of play, earning the Daily Fantasy best player honors. He outperformed Jaycee Marcelino, who recorded 18 points, 3 rebounds, and 3 steals, and Subido, who added 16 points and 4 assists.
Zamboanga’s Coach Louie Alas also received contributions from Rey Joey Barcuma, who delivered 8 points, 6 assists, and 5 rebounds.
Paranaque, which trailed by only one point (41-42) at halftime, received 14 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists from JP Sarao, along with 11 points each from JR Olegario and Keith Pido.
