Yuka Saso off to strong start in US Women’s Open

Yuka Saso finished the first round of the US Women’s Open with a 2-under 69, Friday (Manila time) at the Lake Course of the Olympic Club in San Francisco, California.

Saso, 19, ended the day tied at sixth with China’s Shanshan Feng and USA’s Lexi Thompson.

The trio trail surprise leader, 17-year-old Megha Ganne, by two strokes.

The strong start of the Filipino-Japanese was reminiscent of her majors debut last year held in Houston.

Saso needed to fend off a shaky start that saw her have two bogeys. She birdied holes no. 7, 13, and 18.

Also joining Ganne on top of the leaderboard is Mel Reid with cards of 67.

Tied for third are Brooke Henderson, Angel Yin, and Megan Khang with identical 3-under 68.

The tournament resumes later in the day.
