Rain or Shine’s prodigal father returns after six years.
Yeng Guiao is returning to Rain or Shine to reprise his role as head coach, the ball club announced via social media Monday.
This comes mere days after the 63-year-old parted ways with NLEX, which he built and manned the sidelines of for the past six years.
The development hardly comes as a surprise as talks of his comeback to the Elasto Painters sparked following his exit from the Road Warriors.
Guiao coached the Elasto Painters from 2011-16. Then, he steered the franchise to two PBA titles by ruling the 2012 Governors’ and 2016 Commissioner’s Cups.
The Elasto Painters’ last golden run gave that particular batch the distinction of being the last non-conglomerate team to win a league crown.
Now, the owner of seven PBA titles will be taking over a team filled with youth led by Rey Nambatac, Santi Santillan, Mike Nieto, and Gian Mamuyac.
Still, there are the holdovers from the old Rain or Shine team he last handled, such as Beau Belga, Gabe Norwood, and Jewel Ponferrada.
