Nick Evans has improved his chances of securing another gig with Rain or Shine.
The American big man was “within” the 6-foot-9 height limit set for the 2023 PBA Commissioner’s Cup, as he was measured by the team after their first practice together Monday in preparation for the upcoming William Jones Cup.
“We measured him after practice and he was within the 6’9″ limit,” head coach Yeng Guiao wrote in a short message to Tiebreaker Times.
Evans was brought in to pair up with Ange Kouame as the Elasto Painters anticipate tough competition in the August 12-20 invitationals in Taiwan.
Teams from Iran, Qatar, United Arab Emirates, and Chinese Taipei (Teams A and B) will be competing alongside the Japan U20 team, US NCAA D1 school UC-Irvine, and reigning KBL and EASL champion Anyang KGC.
According to Guiao during a guest appearance at the Philippine Sportswriters Association (PSA) Forum last August 1, if Evans meets the height limit, he could be considered for the 2023 Commissioner’s Cup.
Evans has met the requirement, and now it’s up to him to show RoS that he deserves to be their import in the season-opening tilt.
“Hopefully, this import, if he plays well, we might also use him for the next conference in October,” Guiao told the Forum. “But of course, it will be subject to his performance here in the Jones Cup.”
