Will Gozum will get a headstart on what life at the pro level is like.
The reigning NCAA Seniors Basketball Most Valuable Player will join Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League’s Quezon this season.
And for the 23-year-old senior of College of Saint Benilde, he joined the Huskers because it was his way of repaying the trust given to him by the Gregorio family.
The Gregorios were instrumental in bringing him to University of the Philippines five years ago.
“I decided to join this team because I’m familiar with not just my soon-to-be teammates there but also with the managers,” said the 6-foot-6 big man.
“And for sure I’ll learn a lot from Coach Eric (Gonzales) and his staff. Also, I believe my growth as a player will flourish here in Quezon.”
Gozum though won’t be able to join Quezon to start the fifth season of the MPBL.
Currently, he is also part of Pilipinas Super League team Pampanga Royce Hotel — a team coached by another brilliant mind in Sandro Soriano.
“Pinayagan naman ako nila Boss Frank (Lao) to join Quezon but I’ll finish my commitment with Pampanga Royce first,” he said.
Gozum will leave Quezon once Charles Tiu and the Blazers begin their preparation for NCAA Season 99.
Before going back to CSB, Gozum will look to learn everything he can from Gonzales and Soriano and not just bring it to the Blazers but also to life after college — whether it may be in the PBA or overseas.
“I want to learn how to play with the pros and how they handle in-game pressure. I also want to learn to become a better leader since I’m one of the seniors already in CSB.”
