Vosotros, Bernardino lead Gilas in FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup

The Philippines will look to punch outright tickets in the Olympic Qualifying Tournament for the 2024 Paris Olympics come March 29 to April 2 in the 2023 FIBA 3×3 Asia Cup at the Singapore Sports Hub, OCBC Square.

Headlining the men’s team is the TNT duo of Almond Vosotros (PH no. 6) and Samboy De Leon (PH no. 8). The two, along with Joseph Eriobu and Lervin Flores, were part of the Gilas 3×3 team that finished fourth last year.

Meanwhile, Gilas Women will still have the duo of Afril Bernardino (PH no. 13) and Khate Castillo (PH no. 9). Together with Katrina Guytingco and Camille Clarin last year, they finished 14th.

This time around, Vosotros and De Leon will be reinforced by Platinum big man Brandon Bates (PH no. 41) and CAVITEX’s Jorey Napoles (PH no. 15).

Clare Castro and Janine Pontejos will return to Gilas Women 3×3. The two were part of the 31st Southeast Asian Games team.

Coaching the men’s team is Lester Del Rosario while the women’s side will still have Pat Aquino as chief tactician.

Fourth-seed Gilas Men will be slotted in Pool D alongside Qatar and the survivor of Qualifying Draw D — either Malaysia, Iran, Hong Kong, or Brunei.

Tenth-ranked Gilas Women, meanwhile, will be grouped in Pool A alongside top-seed China and eighth-seed Iran.

The top two teams in each pool will advance to the knockout playoffs.
