Vanessa De Jesus, Duke trounce Troy for sixth win

Duke cruised past Troy, taking a 91-75 victory to go to 6-0 for the 2021-22 NCAA Division I season, Monday morning (Manila time) at Cameron Indoor Stadium in Cameron, North Carolina.

Filipino-American Vanessa De Jesus only played 14 minutes in the game. She tallied three points and two assists.

But De Jesus’ backcourt-mate Shayeann Day-Wilson made up for De Jesus’ limited production with a record-setting performance.

The freshman had a career-high 26 points (9-of-14) to go with five rebounds and four assists in 32 minutes off the bench. The rookie shot 8-of-10 from distance. She also tied the Duke school record for most threes made in a single game.

Up by just six, 53-47, Celeste Taylor triggered a 7-0 blast to pull away from the Trojans.

Taylor and Day-Wilson then drained back-to-back treys. They also got a few layups from freshman Lee Volker as well as Taylor, to end the third with a 70-59 Blue Devil lead.

Duke put the game away in the fourth and outscored the Trojans 21-16 over the final 10 minutes to secure the 16-point victory.

Taylor scored 24 points, pulled down 11 boards and dished out a team best six assists.

Felmas Koranga led Troy (3-3) with 24 points and 16 rebounds.

Duke closes its three-game homestand with a matchup against the eighth-ranked Iowa Hawkeyes on Friday.
