Vanessa De Jesus delivers as Duke holds off Virginia

Duke edged out winless Virginia, 57-48, to go up to 4-3 in ACC play, Monday morning (Manila time) at the Cameron Indoor Stadium in Durham, North Carolina.

Leading by 46-29 heading into the final frame, the visiting Cavaliers went on a 10-0 blast, cutting the lead down to five with 2:33 remaining.

Shayeann Day-Wilson calmly drained a pull-up jumper just inside the free throw line to halt the Virginia run and give the Blue Devils a 52-45 advantage with 46 seconds remaining. Vanessa de Jesus added five free throws in the final minute to ice the game and claim the home victory.

Duke went up to 13-4 while going above .500 in the ACC while dropping Virginia to a 0-6 record in the conference, 3-13 overall.

Day-Wilson got 13 points while De Jesus added 11 points, four rebounds, four assists, and two steals.

Virginia was led by Kaydan Lawson with 10 points.

Up next for De Jesus and Duke are age-old rivals North Carolina on Friday.
