V.League: Santiago finishes with 13 as Saitama takes penultimate game


Jaja Santiago’s Saitama came from behind to defeat Himeji, 16-25, 25-19, 29-27, 25-17, in its penultimate game in the 2021-22 V.League Division 1 women’s tournament, Saturday at the Wink Gymnasium.

The 6-foot-5 Filipina picked up 11 attacks and two blocks for 13 points in the victory.

Lorenne Teixeira got four blocks to go with 18 kills for 22 points, while Mami Uchiseto had 15 points, all from spikes.

Momoko Niida chipped in 13 points for Ageo Medics as they rose to 19-13 at the fifth spot.

Thai import Celeste Plak led Victorina with 22 points with a 20-of-50 spiking rate, good for 40 percent.

Saki Tanaka chalked up 14 points, while Arisa Nagano tallied six blocks and four hits for 10 points.

Himeji absorbed its 24th loss in 32 outings, good for just 11th place.

Santiago will finish her third year in Japan tomorrow, 12:00 PM (Manila time), at the same Himeji venue.
