V.League: Jaja swats six as Saitama sweeps NEC to go 2-0

Jaja Santiago is undeniably still one of the best blockers in the 2022-23 V.League Division 1 women’s tournament. And she proved it anew on Sunday.

This, as the 6-foot-5 middle blocker dropped 15 points, including six blocks, in Saitama’s 25-19, 25-23, 25-19 sweep of NEC at the Todoroki Arena.

Even though the match wasn’t as lopsided as yesterday, the Ageo Medics still proved the steadier team in crunch time. Moreover, they up their win-loss card to 2-0 alongside Hitachi and JT Marvelous.

Saitama, still without import Sara Lozo, was led by Yuka Sato again with 18 points on 16 attacks.

Momoko Niida backstopped Sato, who was part of the Japan national team that played here in the Philippines during the 2022 AVC Cup for Women, with 12 points.

Chinami Furaya had 13 points for the 0-2 Red Rockets. Meanwhile, Sarina Koga returned and played for two sets, notching 10 points.

Up next for Santiago and Saitama is PFU Bluecats on Saturday, 12:00 NN, at the Yume Arena Takata in Iwata.
